5 Fave Podcasts

Ok, I love podcasts so much, it’s a little crazy. It started with Serial, the brilliant podcast by Sarah Koenig about the 1999 murder of a high school senior in Maryland and her ex-boyfriend, Adnan Sayed, who was arrested and convicted. Did he do it? Was he framed? Episode after episode, I (and everyone else listening to it) was transfixed. The research, the storytelling, the narration, the amazing Sarah Koenig! (And Adnan Sayed was recently released after 23 years in prison.)

When it was over, I wanted more.

I listened to Serial in 2017 and I’ve been hooked on podcasts ever since. Here are a few current favorites, if you’d like to know…

  • Death Sex & Money, with Anna Sale.

Anna Sale talks to all kinds of people about, you know,  death, sex and/or money. She’s so friendly and non-judgmental, and her laugh is the BEST. One of my life goals is to have Anna Sale laugh at something I say. I’m not kidding. http://wnycstudios.org

  • A Slight Change of Plans, with Dr. Maya Shankar.

Maya Shankar experienced the devastating loss of a dream at an early age and her podcast deals with the aftermath of profound change.  Insightful and inspiring. https://pushkin.fm

  • The Happiness Lab, with Dr. Laurie Santos.

In 2018, Yale Professor Laurie Santos introduced Psychology and the Good Life, the most popular class in Yale history with nearly 25% of undergrads enrolling.  Her podcast followed.  Smart, engaging and inspirational. https://podcasts.apple.com

  • Murdaugh Murders Podcast, with Mandy Matney.

You’ve got to admire the guts of this young woman journalist, taking on the criminal justice system and shining the spotlight on the family that heavily influenced it in South Carolina for a century.  For over four years she has not let up, and disgraced attorney Alex Murdaugh was recently convicted of murdering his wife and son, and still faces at least 99 charges for stealing millions of dollars from his poor trusting clients and former law firm.  With Liz Farrell and David Moses.  http://murdaughmurderpodcast

  • The Maximized Minimalist, with Katy Wells.

I love the minimalist lifestyle, getting rid of clutter, not buying things I don’t need, and living a more streamlined life.  Clutter is bad, this podcast is good!  Katy has all the answers.  http://maximizedminimalist
